CFG 2011 : Europe Region Update

By Martin Altemark on 05.08.11
Regional Media Director Martin Altemark summarizes the Open competition in Europe.

After six workouts in seven weeks, we have come to the end of the first-ever online competition in the sport of fitness: the Open. It has been great to see so many athletes from around Europe come out to compete. This year, more than 1,300 European athletes officially took part in the Open — and as we all know, plenty more followed along in their boxes.

Now that it’s over, here’s a look at how our athletes faired in the worldwide and region rankings. One thing is certain …  we have an awesome competition coming up in June!

Men

The Men’s Division ended up being dominated by Finns, with 2009 CrossFit Games winner and superstar Mikko Salo taking first. Mikko Salo is followed closely by another two Finns, Tuomas Vainio (2nd) and Mikko AronpääThe Other Mikko“(3rd).  Next, we have Frederick Aegidius (4th) of Butcher’s Garage in Denmark and Dafydd Dennis (5th) of Wales, a paramedic who received honors for rescuing a man from a burning car while off duty.
