I’ve always loved the above two quotes because their sentiments are so on the money. It is sad but true that the bigger the lie, the more people are willing to unquestioningly accept it. And the greater the mass of people who accept the lie, the easier it is to persuade others to join the growing crowd. In such a way does a great lie snowball into a great ‘truth.’
Nutritionally I can’t think of a bigger lie than the one claiming that fats in general and saturated fats in particular are bad for us. This lie is so deeply embedded in the minds of most that you couldn’t blow it out with a stick of dynamite. Especially in the minds of academics, and more especially in the minds of most dietitians. Not all, but most. Nutritionally, it is truly the Big Lie.

Už jste někdy slyšeli o dietě doby kamenné neboli o dietě jeskynních mužů? Že ne? Je tedy nejvyšší čas se o ní něco dozvědět. Druhá otázka: Myslíte si, že naši pravěcí předkové trpěli nadváhou? Asi ne, může znít Vaše odpověď. Napadne Vás, že rozhodně neproseděli většinu pracovní doby a ani si neobjednávali mamutí hamburger v prehistorickém fast-foodu. Stejný názor mám i já, ale opravdu je to ten hlavní důvod? Co když je za tím spíše to, co jedli? Pojďme si udělat malý výlet do doby kamenné a podívat se trochu zblízka na jídelníček našich předků.

Certain food groups (like grains, legumes and dairy) are probably having a negative impact on your health and fitness without you even realizing it. Are your energy levels inconsistent or non-existent? Do you have aches and pains that can’t be explained by over-use or injury? Are you having a hard time losing weight no matter how hard you try? Do you have some sort of condition (like skin problems, digestive ailments, seasonal allergies or fertility issues) that medication hasn’t helped? These symptoms may be directly related to the foods you eat – even the “healthy” stuff. So how do you know if (and how) these foods are affecting you?
Strip them from your diet completely. Cut out all the inflammatory, insulin-spiking, calorie-dense but nutritionally sparse food groups for a full 30 days. Let your body heal and recover from whatever effects those foods may be provoking. Push the “reset” button with your metabolism, systemic inflammation, and the downstream effects of the food choices you’ve been making. Since it is January there are a ton of Boxes running their own Paleo Challenges, most are the typical 30 days because that is all you need to truly feel some awesome results. At SnoRidge CrossFit our is called Stop the Slop and includes a benchmark WOD of Jackie and strict trainer and self-imposed focus on correct form while doing any movement. Also since it is January there are a lot of new people at the CrossFit boxes due to everyone’s New Years resolutions. That being the case, I saw a lot of people who are not only new to CrossFit, but that are new to hearing about Paleo and they looked a little nervous. This post is to help alleviate that nervousness with some tips on how to tackle this Paleo Challenge and hopefully make some life changes.
